Shoppers of Kidwelly Co-op give generously to local foodbank

23rd May 2016

Staff and customers of Kidwelly Co-op have been shopping wisely and made a generous donation of food to Carmarthen Foodbank.

Co-operative stores nationwide have long been supporters of Foodbanks and the Co-op in Kidwelly have chosen Carmarthen Foodbank to benefit from the latest in store appeal. The recently launched new budget range in stores sees customers able to purchase essential items such as flour, milk and pasta at very low prices. For every one of these items purchased by a customer, Kidwelly Co-op donated the same item to Carmarthen Foodbank.

The appeal took place during one day’s trading in March and with lots of in store promotion a fantastic £119.93 worth of stock was donated along with a trolley full of other items that customers had donated as they did their daily shop.

Anthony Thorne, Kidwelly store manager commented: “We have seen a great response to our appeal for Carmarthen Foodbank from local customers. The Co-operative have always been passionate about supporting local charities and have run a successful Foodbank Appeal for a number of years. That is why when I gave my staff the option to choose a charity the local foodbank came out on top.

Anthony added: “We’ve been so pleased with the response in Kidwelly that there will now be a permanent collection bin for the foodbank in store for customers to donate what they can during their shop.”

Judy Pawluk, Carmarthen Foodbank Manager commented: “We cannot thank the staff and customers of Kidwelly Co-op enough for their kindness and generosity. Unfortunately there is still a growing need for foodbanks especially across Wales so appeals like this are extremely important for raising awareness and it’s been fantastic to be able to build this relationship with such a supportive national company such as The Co-operative.”
